next meeting: january

Hey folks. to anyone who didn't come to the last meeting and to remind those who did.

our next meeting is going to be sometime early to mid january (whenever people come back from whatever trip they go on for the holidays). this is a very important meeting! if you haven't got your idea together by then, then you won't be a part of the first book. this first book is VERY important since it'll make or break this project. there's no telling when the second volume will be put together.

what we need for this meeting:
-have your idea set
-some layouts and thumbnails of your idea
-have a set page count (so we can start talking to printers)

at this meeting we'll be able to gauge the likelihood of having the book done for the Seattle comicon and/or A.P.E. in Portland.

Format change

hey all.

this goes out to anyone who missed the second meeting, or both of them.

we changed the intended format at the last meeting from a monthly (or at least regularly released) smaller format, lower page count comic to a longer, larger anthology. more like a collection of short stories in a graphic novel format. the reasons being that the original idea would look quite cheap and unprofessional (too 'zine-like); the new format makes gives us a little more credibility as well as a more concrete deadline. rather than if you fall behind a bit, putting your story off for another issue, because nothing will get done that way. plus we could actually sell these at cons. if this works out, we'd be aiming to make it a twice a year thing.

for the stories, think of a realistic page count. we want quality and we want to get it done in a timely fashion. a good count would be around 5 pages total. it doesn't have to be a 5 page story, you can have one panel comics, one page comics, whatever. but more important than filling up those 5 pages, is having a quality entry that you can get done on time. so if that's 3 pages or 10, that's fine. ten's probably too much.

we'll be doing this in black and white. until we confirm with the printers, there's a possibility of having a colour cover, as well as gray tones in the interior. we'll be contacting printing companies after the next meeting when we have a better idea of what the total page count will be.

now, for those artists who need writers and the writers who need artists, start contacting eachother.

next meeting will be in january.

next meeting

well, it's that time again. at the last meeting we set the tentative date for this friday, december 7. so, in the absence of any other suggestions, let's stick with that date and someone suggested Calhoun's on west Broadway. i can't think of a better place, with more room. so Calhoun's at 7pm on friday december 7.

if this doesn't work for everyone, please, quickly, let us know and make an alternate suggestion.
